This button on the top toolbar allows you to join two separate open paths into a single path.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Step 1

Select one of the paths and move it to that one end of the green path overlaps with an end of the yellow path.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Step 2

 

Select both paths and click the "Join" button. If both ends of both paths overlap, the result will be a closed shape.

If you want to close the close the open shape, select it and click the "Join" button again.
