This is a two step process. First click on a line where the dimension arc should  start. This will show a red circle.

Now click on a line that joins the first line. When you release the mouse, the arc will be drawn. You can click any where on this line as the radius of the arc is calculated from the first line as the distance between the red circle and the join.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

This will work with any shape made up of joined straight lines.  The shape in the picture on the left was drawn using the connected line tool.

Drawing a series of single lines will not work, even if the lines overlap.
