Compound paths

Two or more simple shapes can be combined (not grouped) and used to form a compound shape. An example of this is a rectangle with a hole in the center.

When there are 2 or more shapes in the drawing area, this panel will show on the right of the screen, but buttons will be disabled until 2 or more shapes are selected.

For the various options to work:

The shapes must be closed paths.

The shapes must overlap or adjacent edges must be be aligned exactly.

The XOR (exclude) option is used to produce shapes with holes.

When using the NOT option, the order in which the shapes are selected matters.hlp-not1

e.g. Starting with two rectangles, selecting the green rectangle first gives result A, while selecting the red rectangle first gives result B

The video below shows how these options can be used to produce complicated shapes.
